(Further clarification of the trip to the Vaduz Castle, and more about Heini's accident).

Eberhard: I have already said yesterday what I had to say to Hannes Vetter's question. Now all of you must say how the practical questions were considered.
Hannes Vetter said that everything must be done in such a way that the task of the Gemeinde stands in complete purity, and therefore all the responsible ones concerned should, for a time, take on another task within the church, so as to make a new beginning.
Eberhard: I emphasize once more that we hold as firmly to the government as to ourselves; that no one of those involved be deprived of his special function or service; neither the servant of the Word with his main responsibility, nor yet the second housemother, who has a great responsibility for the Christian customs, nor the "Hort" sisters or teachers. That does not come into question, as it all happened unintentionally in unclarity (or twilight). We take it that the parable-like attitude was not understood. Lene was relieved of her responsibility because of her cardiac-neurosis. Fritz, as steward, had nothing to do with it. The responsibility for the children's community is not one of his responsibilities. Also Adolf is not responsible for what happened because he only heard about it first on Saturday.
Fritz: I feel responsible in as far as I feel the beginning of the whole affair was not right.
Eberhard: It was not at that moment born out of the Spirit. That the excursion would take place was decided; but Fritz means it did not take place in real clarity.
Adolf: The situation had changed. The visit of the Odermats and Heini's accident came in between.
Eberhard: Fritz, Adolf and Kurt were responsible for Heini's accident. Heini must ask the Gemeinde for forgiveness that he did not listen to the warning call [of the brothers]. Why did the others not jump to help him? Was it impossible?
[It was confirmed that it was impossible to jump over to him.]
Eberhard: Heini, in future you must pay more attention to shouts from the brothers! Why wasn't Fritz there?
Fritz: I was scything, and just then I did not think of the box. From the beginning I have felt that this is where my responsibility comes in. I regret that I have not yet written to the Rhön Bruderhof about this.
Eberhard: The work distributor is always responsible for everything. Heini, you burden the responsible men. Surely you didn't want to show off a he-man, did you? Be honest now! Did you want to make an impression?
Heini: I don't think so. I didn't know how heavy the box was.
Eberhard : We want to thank God that nothing worse happened. I only wanted to get things really clear. Let us all learn from it. We certainly all feel responsible in our services. Was the excursion already before the medical examination took place? How was it then with Ursel? I still cannot grasp it, Marianne and Annemarie, that you walked for 1½ hours to Vaduz, looked over the castle, and then had a swim even though Ursel is not very well. There is a whole complex of unclarities in the whole thing. We want to be clear what has to happen now. Adolf and Fritz, how does this matter look to you? I only wanted to bring these additional points to consider the responsibility concerning the two who suffered--Heini and Ursel, and that it was not gone into straight away. Responsibility is responsibility. “didn't understand!" is no excuse. We believe in the leading of the Holy Spirit, that we know what to do at the right moment. Emmy and I are not in favor of these trips into the valley. We had warned Annemarie and Marianne quite seriously because a great deal can happen when visiting the castle. Did you support that, Else, Hannes, Adolf?
[This question was answered with "No".]
Emmy: In earlier years we experienced many embarrassing incidents so that we said that we would not do it again.
Eberhard: [Told about an engaged couple at Sannerz who had bathed together in the Sannerz Waldquelle]. I can never forget this experience and I hope you cannot either.
Adolf: said that he thinks the transference of some members from one hof to another, although a positive solution, is not without many expenses.
Eberhard: But it is building up. These moves are meant quite positively. I believe Kurt and Marianne will not need to be separated for long. (Hay harvest) I hope that we shall all soon be completely united on the Rhön Bruderhof. I believe it is a likely possibility after the political situation, that many members will experience seeing one another again.
Else said that as housemother she did not give the hortners or the teachers enough support.
Eberhard: In Hutterian writings we find the name "housekeeper" for the task that Emmy and Else do. Perhaps Else needs a little more time before using the term "housemother". It became clear to us on the Rhön Bruderhof that Else should be second housemother and that we have no one else. But it is more appropriate that she is the housekeeper who will become housemother. It was a big demand on us to found a new hof in a moment of political pressure. I find this brotherhood much too small. We were too weak to divide up. A tremendous responsibility is given us at a moment when we have not grown into it. That applies also for Annemarie and Marianne. Over there they were nestled in the Gemeinde, so that they did not come into such a situation of responsibility.
Annemarie said she was very thankful for the clearance of the matter, but she was sorry it had caused so much delay in the work and task of the church.
Eberhard: I doubt whether it caused a delay. Beforehand there was so much that needed to erupt in some way. There was an opportunity given here to come to grips with it. It seems to me it is a help given through a regrettable incident. Through it the tension between the young people and the service of the Word has been relieved. It was not always possible to build harmony between the youthful strongly felt opinions and the more serious thinking (of the service of the Word?). Annemarie, can you take over Emi-Ma's task over there? Can you represent the educational authority strongly? I thought Marianne should take over the education of the Boller children, besides the music and the arts and crafts. I will suggest all this at the school meeting. I find it important for respect, that he sees that it is not a moral question but a religious one.
Eberhard closed the meeting saying that everything is clear enough for the talk to take place with the school inspector.

Eberhard: Was ich zunächst zu Hannes-Vetters Frage zu sagen hatte, habe ich gestern gesagt. Jetzt müsst ihr sprechen, wie die praktische Frage zu denken war.
Hannes-Vetter sagt, dass alles getan werden muss, damit der Auftrag der Gemeinde wieder in völliger Reinheit dasteht und dass deshalb alle betroffenen Verantwortlichen für eine Zeit lang an einen

anderen Posten innerhalb der Gemeinde gesetzt werden sollen, um einen neuen Anfang zu machen.
Eberhard. Ich betone noch einmal, dass wir der Regierung wie uns selbst gegenüber festhalten, dass niemand der Betreffenden seiner besonderen dienstlichen Funktion entkleidet wird, nicht der Diener am Wort mit seiner Hauptverantwortung noch die zweite Hausmutter, die eine große Verantwortung für die christliche Sitte hat, noch die Hortnerinnen und Lehrerinnen, davon ist gar keine Rede, weil es in einer Dämmerung geschehen ist, unbeabsichtigt. Die religiöse gleichnishafte Stellung war nicht verstanden, die wir einnehmen. Lene war wegen ihrer Herzneurose der Verantwortung enthoben, Fritz als Haushalter hat damit nichts zu tun, zu seiner Verantwortung gehört die Verantwortung für die Kindergemeinde nicht. Auch Adolf ist nicht verantwortlich zu machen für das Geschehene, weil er mit allem immer erst am Sonnabend bekannt wird.
Fritz: Ich fühle mich verantwortlich insofern, als ich das Gefühl habe, dass der Anfang der Sache nicht richtig war.
Eberhard: Es war im Moment nicht aus dem Geist geboren. Dass die Fahrt sein sollte, war beschlossen. Fritz meint, es war aber nicht in

richtiger Klarheit geschehen.
Adolf: Die Situation hatte sich verändert. Inzwischen war der Besuch Odermats und Heinis Unfall.
Eberhard: Für Heinis Unfall sind Fritz, Adolf und Kurt verantwortlich. Heini muss die Gemeinde um Verzeihung bitten, dass er auf die Mahnungzurufe nicht gehört hat. Warum sind die anderen nicht zugesprungen? War es unmöglich?
Es wird festgestellt, dass es unmöglich war, hinzuzuspringen.
Eberhard: Heini, du musst auf brüderliche Zurufe in Zukunft besser achten! Warum war Fritz nicht dabei?
Fritz: Ich war beim Sensenklopfen und dachte im Moment nicht an die Kiste. Ich habe von vornherein gespürt, dass mich die Verantwortung hier trifft. Ich bedaure, dass ich darüber noch nicht an den Rhönbruderhof geschrieben habe.
Eberhard: Der Betriebsführer ist für alles verantwortlich, immer. Heini, du belastest die verantwortlichen Männer. Du wolltest doch nicht als Kraftmeier auftreten? Sei mal ehrlich! Wolltest du Eindruck schinden?
Heini: Ich glaube nicht. Ich wusste nicht, wie schwer die Kiste war.
Eberhard: Wir wollen Gott danken, dass die Sache noch so abgelaufen ist. Ich wollte nur gern eine rechte Klärung. Wir wollen alle davon lernen. Wir fühlen

uns doch alle verantwortlich in unseren Diensten. War der Ausflug schon, als die ärztliche Untersuchung noch nicht gewesen war? Wie war es denn mit Ursel? Das kann ich noch nicht begreifen, Marianne und Annemarie, dass ihr 1 ½ Stunden nach Vaduz gegangen seid, das Schloss besichtigt habt und noch gebadet habt, während Ursel nicht ganz gesund ist. Da ist ein ganzer Komplex von Unklarheiten der Sache gegenüber. Wir wollen klären, was jetzt geschehen soll. Adolf und Fritz, wie erscheint euch die Sache? Mir lag nur daran, diese Ergänzungen zu bringen, was die Verantwortung der Betroffenen Heini und Ursel betrifft, und dass das nicht gleich in Angriff genommen wurde. Verantwortung ist Verantwortung. Ich habe es nicht kapiert, ist keine Entschuldigung. Wir glauben an die Führung des heiligen Geistes, dass wir im rechten Augenblick erkennen, was zu tun ist. Emmy und ich sind gar nicht für diese Gänge ins Tal. Wir hätten Annemarie und Marianne besonders ermahnt, weil ungeheuer viel abhängt von einem Besuch beim Schloss. Ist das geschehen Else, Hannes, Adolf?
Die Frage wird verneint.
Emmy: Wir haben in früheren Jahren viele unangenehme Erfahrungen gemacht, so dass wir uns sagten,

das machen wir nicht wieder.
Eberhard: (erzählt von einem Brautpaar in Sannerz, das in der Sannerzer Waldquelle zusammen gebadet hatte.) Diese Erfahrung vergaß ich nicht wieder und ihr hoffentlich auch nicht.
Adolf meint, dass der Austausch einiger Geschwistriget von einem Hof zum anderen zwar eine positive Lösung ist, die aber doch mit sehr vielen Unkosten verknüpft ist.
Eberhard: Aber es ist Aufbau. Diese Versetzungen sind ganz positiv gemeint. Ich glaube, dass Kurt und Marianne sich nicht zu lange zu trennen brauchen (Heuernte). Ich hoffe, dass wir alle bald auf dem Rhönbruderhof vollständig vereint sind. Ich halte nach der politischen Lage ein Wiedersehen sämtlicher Bruderschafter für sehr gut möglich.
Else sagt, dass sie als Hausmutter den Hortnerinnen und Lehrerinnen zu wenig beigestanden hat.
Eberhard: In den hutterischen Schriften findet man für Emmys und Elses Auftrag den Ausdruck Haushalterin. Vielleicht braucht Else noch etwas Zeit bis zum Ausdruck Hausmutter. Es wurde uns auf dem Rhönbruderhof klar, dass Else die zweite Hausmutter ist und dass wir keine andere haben. Aber stärker noch ist sie Haushalterin zur werdenden Hausmutter. – Es war eine

Zumutung an uns, diesen zweiten Hof in einem Moment politischen Drucks zu gründen. Ich finde diese Bruderschaft noch viel zu klein. Wir waren noch nicht teilungsbedürftig. Eine ungeheure Verantwortung ist gegeben in einem noch nicht ausgewachsenen Moment. Das gilt auch für Annemarie und Marianne. Drüben waren sie so eingebettet in der Gemeinde, so dass sie gar nicht in eine solche Lange einer solchen Verantwortung gekommen wären.
Annemarie sagt, sie sei sehr dankbar für die Klärung der Sache, es täte ihr aber leid, dass dadurch soviel Aufenthalt in der Arbeit und Aufgabe der Gemeinde gekommen wäre.
Eberhard. Ich bezweifle, dass es ein Aufenthalt war. Es war vorher so vieles, was zu irgend einem Ausbruch drängte. Es war hier nur eine Gelegenheit gegeben, alles zusammen zu fassen. Mir scheint es eine Förderung durch einen bedauerlichen Vorfall zu sein. Hierdurch wurde die Spannung zwischen dem Dienst am Wort und den Jugendlichen entladen. Es war wohl nicht immer möglich, einen Rhythmus zu schaffen zwischen der jugendlichen Gefühlsempfindung und der Gedankenschwere (des Dienstes am Wort?). Annemarie, kannst du Emy-Mas Aufgabe drüben übernehmen? Kannst

du die pädagogische Durchdringung jetzt stärker vertreten? Bei Marianne dachte ich, dass sie außer Musik und Kunsthandwerk Bollers Kinder unterrichten soll. Das alles will ich beim Schulrat vertreten. Ich halte das für die äußere Ehre für wichtig, dass er sieht, es ist keine moralische, sondern eine religiöse Frage.
Eberhard schließt die Zusammenkunft, da alles soweit klar ist, dass die Unterredung mit dem Schulrat stattfinden kann.
